Young guns impress EDRS reach last four

JONNY Cohen, the manager of the Maccabi GB Futsal team, praised youngsters Scott Kashket and Sam Sollosi following a series of excellent displays on Matchday Four of the National Futsal League Southern Division Two.

Maccabi took seven points from a possible 12 at the University of East London’s Sportsdock arena, Kashkett ( 2 ) , Russell Goldstein and Ben Sollosi helped Maccabi make a winning start as they came from behind t o beat Reading Futsal 6-5.

A poor perf o r m a n c e f o l l o w e d a s M a c - cabi were beaten 4-2 by second-place Gloucester Futsal Revolution. Jamie Wolfson and Kashkett were the scorers for Maccabi.

The signs looked ominous in match three as Maccabi went 3-0 down against league leaders Kaunas. But a second-half double from Kashkett plus one from David Leiwy saw them come away with a draw. Sam Sollosi and Kashkett featured prominentl­y in the come- back against strong eastern European opposition.

Goals from Jonathan Green, Ben Sollosi, Sam Sollosi, Goldstein and Leiwy sealed a 5-3 victory in the final match against Plymouth.

Cohen said: “On the one hand, there are so many positives to come out of today - in particular the magnificen­t debuts of Scott Kashkett and Sam Sollosi. Then there is also the huge character the team showed in coming from behind on so many occasions.

“However, there is also an underlying feeling of frustratio­n that we could have achieved so much more had we maintained concentrat­ion throughout the day.

“The team i s in an embryonic state and we are learning about this wonderful game all the time. We have one matchday left in Gloucester on April 29 and I hope to take a big squad there and once again prove to all that we are the best futsalling team in this league.”

EDRS Stonegrove set up a semi-final clash against Temple Fortune after hitting Hendon Harriers for six in the Nathan Horwitz MMFL Division Two Cup.

Goals from Tony Platman, Phil Silver, Ian Leader, Martin Seifert (2) and an own goal eased them through. Ilan Cohen grabbed Hendon’s consolatio­n.

A hat-trick from Paul Allen fired Glenthorne United A to a 5-2 victory over South Mancs in Division One. Greg Morris and Nick Belkin finished the job. Joel Nathan and Braham Hochenberg replied for Mancs. The teams meet again in the semi-finals of the cup on Sunday.

North London Raiders registered an 8-2 win over Faithfold, with Lloyd Becker (3), Andy Bloom (2), Wayne Davidson (2) and Dean Schulberg on target. Jonny Summerfiel­d and Jonny Mack replied for Faithfold.

In Division Two, Clayhall Park Casuals claimed a rare win with Leon Pernikis, guest Danny Fenton and Gary Rowland on target in a 3-1 success over Ashlodge.

London Maccabi Lions retained top spot after their 4-2 win over Temple Fortune. David Kyte (2), Marc Morris and Simon Barr were the marksmen. James Ryan fired a double for Fortune.

Gary Adams (2), Adam Lennard (2), Gary Swerner and Sid Shaw helped title rivals Glenthorne United B maintain their challenge with a 6-1 victory over Glenthorne C.
