REVENGE IS NOT SWEET
It was with immense pride that I listened, this erev Shabbat, to Rabbi Andrew Goldsmith at Alyth Synagogue. Not only did the rabbi ask everyone to keep the families of the four murder victims in their thoughts and prayers but he named each of the deceased, including Mohammad Abu Khedeir.
For me, this brought into sharp focus how our religion can be a civilising force against the hatred which so often prevails. Surely, along with the right to reside in Israel, there is also the requirement to enact modern Jewish values and let go of the cycle of revenge. John Cook, Portsdown Ave, NW11
