Mac­cabiah stars sparkle

BOWL­ING PAUL Freed­man, Char­lie Sassie­nie, Dar­ren Sassie­nie and Russ Snip­per won the Mac­cabi GB Ten­pin Bowl­ing League ti­tle.

Play­ing un­der the name I Don’t Care Re­ally, the team held off the chal­lenge of Mau­rice Baum, Steven Caplin and Ge­off Isaacs, with cap­tain Snip­per fin­ish­ing the sea­son with the high se­ries, bowl­ing a 806 with hand­i­cap.

Paul Hart won the sea­son’s aver­age buster, al­though spe­cial men­tion goes to new­comer Paul Dobkin who led for a large part of the sea­son be­fore a late surge from Mac­cabiah vet­eran.

New­comer Rus­sell Shear put in an eye­catch­ing per­for­mance at the MGB Ten­pin Bowl­ing tour­na­ment. He claimed t he overal l prize, as well as the Fredd i e L o b e r - man Me­mo­rial Tro­phy for the best high game af­ter reg­is­ter­ing a bril­liant 267.

Fran Da Costa fin­ished sec­ond and she was also pre­sented with a tro­phy for her ser­vices to the sport, with Johnny Mervish fin­ish­ing third.

Ian Davis marked his re­turn to ac­tion with vic­tory in the scratch knockout stage, while Swedish bowler Pa­trik Gold­berg col­lect­ing the run­ners-up prize for the sec­ond year in a row.

Davis won the first game 207-192 be­fore Gold­berg hit back in the sec­ond 191-149. But Davis found some form in the de­cider to win 189-168. Richard Kneip took third place.

Craig Grant beat Johnny Mervish in win the Hand­i­cap, while Howard Panas pipped 2013 win­ner Andrew Brill to fin­ish third.
