What’s a roast without the stuffing?

- BY CHARLOTTE OLIVER

TAXIDERMIST ELLE Kaye is probably unusual in her profession — she claims she eats the meat of all the animals she stuffs.

“It totally contradicts the notion of taxidermy to waste the animal,” she says. “It is about re-creating it and giving it a new lease of life. Re-using it as food contradicts the idea that eating meat is wasteful.”

Needless to say, the art graduate from Bushey does not keep kosher.

Since leaving Loughborough University, she has become lead tutor at the London Taxidermy Academy in Borough Market and runs her own company.

She’s also unique in another way. At 22, she’s Britain’s youngest “stuffer”.
