VILLAGE NAMED ‘DEATH TO THE JEWS’

-

THE SIMON Wiesenthal Centre’s Director for International Relations, Shimon Samuels, has written to French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve expressing shock at “the existence of a village named ‘La Mort aux Juifs’ (‘Death to the Jews’).” The village is in the Loiret department, 58 miles south of Paris. Mr Samuels suggested that the name may date to the 11th-century pogroms that ended with the expulsion of France’s 110,000 Jews in 1306. He urged “the earliest removal of this genocidal name”.
