Awat takes Team Mac­cabi GB make a storm­ing JCC start gloves off


FOOT­BALL Vet­eran Is­raeli goal­keeper Dudu Awat has hung up his gloves.

Real Mal­lorca stop­per Awat, 36, has been ap­pointed the club’s Gen­eral Man­ager and is set to an­nounce that he is buy­ing the Span­ish club as the head of a con­sor­tium of Span­ish busi­ness­peo­ple, but de­nies re­ports t h a t R o m a n Abramovich i s in­volved.

A w a t w h o made 78 ap­pear­ances for Is­rael, has been in Spain since 2003 when he joined Rac­ing San­tander from Mac­cabi Haifa. He moved on to De­portivo La Coruna in 2006 and Mal­lorca in 2009.

One of Spain’s top sides, which has twice ap­peared in the Cham­pi­ons league, Mal­lorca fin­ished fifth in La Liga in 2010, but were rel­e­gated in 2013.

Awat said: “My task is to sta­bi­lize the club and get us back into the top flight. I want to help be­cause I love the club and I love the fans. The buy-out has not been fi­nalised, but it’s on the way.”
