Your chance to name our unsung heroes
EVERY YEAR, outstanding people and organisations put their efforts into improving lives.
Some are well known names. Others are unsung heroes of the community.
This year’s Wizo Commitment Awards, in partnership with the JC, will celebrate six different categories.
The awards will be made after nominations from JC readers and others. U s i n g o u r online form at www.thejc.com/ c o mmitment you can name your choice of winner — organisations or or individuals, and who do not have to be Jewish — who deserve recognition for their unique and innovative commitment.
Jill Shaw, the chair of Wizo UK, says: “We are looking for nominations of individuals or companies who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and passion for charitable activities that people feel deserve to be recognised.
“Charitable activities are no longer just the responsibility of the individual. Today, many companies are committed to social responsibility as it is an integral part of a corporate reputation and strategic vision.”
Like Wizo, these awards are open to all regardless of race, religion or gender.
For over 90 years, Wizo has been committed to improving the lives of thousands of vulnerable Israeli citizens.
Last year’s winners in Israel
Karen Mattison, who won her Commitment Award in 2013, visited the charity’s projects in Israel. Mrs Mattison champions part-time workers as the co-founder of Timewise. She says: “Seeing the projects and the work that Wizo does first hand is an experience that is hard to imagine at a distance.
“The passion felt by Wizo staff, lay leadership and volunteers is humbling to witness.”
The winners will be announced in July.
