CONTEST CALL FOR TALENTED YOUNG SINGERS AND MUSICIANS
EMUNAH’S JC-supported young singer and young musician contests kick-off in early February with London and regional heats.
In London, the heats will be held at the Royal Academy of Music on February 1. Manchester’s King David High will stage the regional qualifier on February 3.
Participants will include the school’s head boy, Yonni Levy, 17, a classically trained opera singer who has been offered a place at Leeds College of Music to study voice. With an interest in music therapy, Yonni hopes to undertake work experience at Emunah projects in Israel, where the charity is a major provider of welfare services for disadvantaged children and their families.
Emunah director Deborah Nathan said: “The Young Musician and Young Singer of the Year competitions are a wonderful opportunity to make music and to ultimately raise funds to provide music therapy for vulnerable children in Israel at our residential children’s centres.”
The competition is open to those between the ages of eight and 18.
There are two categories for singers — popular music and musical theatre.
For musicians, the categories are brass, piano/keyboard, solo classical voice, strings (bowed), strings (non-bowed), woodwind and percussion.
For details about entry, go to www.emunah.org.uk, or call 020 8203 6066. The closing date is January 28.
