AN IS­RAELI ac­tivist who works for rec­on­cil­i­a­tion be­tween Jews and Arabs has been hon­oured by the UK branch of the New Is­rael Fund.

Dr Gadi Gvaryahu, the founder of Tag Meir, re­ceived the char­ity’s hu­man rights award, recog­nis­ing so­cial activists in Is­rael, at the NIF din­ner on Sun­day. His group or­gan­ises vis­its to Arab vic­tims of at­tacks by right-wing Jewish mil­i­tants.

Also hon­oured were Samah Salaime Eg­bariya, di­rec­tor of Arab Women in the Cen­tre, which aids vic­tims of do­mes­tic violence, and Eli Bak­eret, head of Mem­izrachShemesh,which­cam­paigns for equal­ity for Jews from Arab lands.

Guest of hon­our at the din­ner was Yu­val Rabin, son of for­mer Is­rael leader Yitzhak Rabin who was as­sas­si­nated 20 years ago this month.
