AN ISRAELI activist who works for reconcilia­tion between Jews and Arabs has been honoured by the UK branch of the New Israel Fund.

Dr Gadi Gvaryahu, the founder of Tag Meir, received the charity’s human rights award, recognisin­g social activists in Israel, at the NIF dinner on Sunday. His group organises visits to Arab victims of attacks by right-wing Jewish militants.

Also honoured were Samah Salaime Egbariya, director of Arab Women in the Centre, which aids victims of domestic violence, and Eli Bakeret, head of MemizrachS­hemesh,whichcampa­igns for equality for Jews from Arab lands.

Guest of honour at the dinner was Yuval Rabin, son of former Israel leader Yitzhak Rabin who was assassinat­ed 20 years ago this month.
