Flixton back with a bang

- BY DARREN WITCOOP

FOOTBALL STUART Delmonte believes his AFC Flixton side have rediscovered their shooting boots after putting rivals South Manchester Sports 1st to the sword.

Adam Lavin’s first-half penalty put South in charge before goals from Richard Walker, Michael Sacks, Yonni Green and Michael Warwick sealed the points in the Accountants League.

Delmonte said: “We controlled the game but only reaped the rewards after changing our formation at half-time. That’s when we got the goals to go with our performance to keep up the pres- sure on Manchester Maccabi 1st.”

David Cohen was the penalty shootout hero as Manchester Maccabi 1st edged out Old Ball in the third round of the County Cup.

Olly Grant struck the winning penalty and manager Anthony Gellman said: “It was a poor game but it’s all about getting through in cup competitions. We held our nerve when it most mattered.”

MJSL champions Leeds Maccabi cruised past league leaders Manchester Maccabi Yellows 3-0 thanks to strikes from Rob Selwyn, Nick Vale and John Saffman.
