Triple gold for New­man

TRAM­POLIN­ING JOSHUA New­man end­edthe­sea­sonin­style­with­triple­gold at the Tram­po­line League fi­nals.

New­man, an Elite tram­po­line gym­nast, was look­ing to com­plete his sea­son un­beaten in all events. He qual­i­fied for the fi­nal of the 15-16 age group in third place and in sec­ond place in the se­nior Men’s Su­per League at the Cop­per Box Arena at the Olympic Park.

New­man and Luke Ben­nett, his syn­chro­nised part­ner, had al­ready reached the fi­nal through their plac­ing over the course of the sea­son. They dis­played great fo­cus and fit­ness lev­els in a clean rou­tine pro­duced as the low­est-ranked team to win the Men’s Su­per League crown by a clear mark. That was fol­lowed by Josh win­ningthe15-16age­group­com­pe­ti­tion by3.180mark­sandthen­theSe­niorMen’s Su­per League event by a clear 1.870 mark, against more sea­soned op­po­nents.

New­man’s per­for­mance saw him fin­ish the year un­beaten in all com­pe­ti­tions and at all lev­els, both at in­di­vid­ual and syn­chro­nised lev­els.

He hopes to move up to Men’s se­nior elite level next year and rep­re­sent Great Bri­tain at the Euro­pean Cham­pi­onships in Spain. New­man said: “It’s has been a great sea­son for me com­ing back­fromin­jury,bet­terthen I could have ever ex­pected.

“I’m look­ing for­ward to 2016 as its Olympic year so I will be tak­ing on some Rio hope­fuls in my first sea­son a year early as a se­nior.”
