KOSHER CHECKING
We write regarding the response to our article ( Knives Out as Kosher Butchers Attack Meat Price Study, JC, Jan 8). We set out the facts around kosher prices. Our only agenda was to start a debate on whether costs could be reduced.
Mr Lipowicz’s aggressive response ( Letters, Jan 15) did not refute any of our facts or provide his own. He did offer some explanations for why kosher prices are higher. However, there remain many unanswered questions, such as why kosher meat price increases have outstripped those of non-kosher meat, or why kosher supervision imposes a cost so much higher than halal supervision.
Kosher consumers deserve greater transparency. We would welcome Mr Lipowicz shedding more light and less heat on this important issue. Anthony Tricot, Andrea Silberman London
