Mayor’s call over flags
MAYOR OF London Sadiq Khan has urged police to treat displays of Hizbollah flags “very seriously”.
Mr Khan was asked by London Assembly member Kemi Badenoch why Hizbollah flags were not taken down at the anti-Israel Al-Quds Day rally on July 3.
Ms Badenoch said: “Flying the Hizbollah flag is illegal; they are a terrorist organisation that promotes antisem- itism, and the police should use their powers to stop this message of hate.”
In response, Mr Khan said he understood “the concerns of the Jewish community, and the distress these flags cause many Londoners”.
He added: “The police know how seriously I take this issue and I am confident they will thoroughly investigate.
“I will continue to work closely with the [Metropolitan Police] Commissioner to make sure reports of this kind are taken very seriously.”
