Helping firebomb victims

NORWICH LIBERAL Jewish Community has been prominent in a campaign to help a Romanian family whose village shop was firebombed.

NLJC chair Annie Henriques spoke at a rally in support of the family, who have been in the UK for two years and whose shop i s close to the prem- AnnieHenri­quesandAnd­rea Abraham, daughterof­the shopowners ises where the community holds services. A separate public appeal raised more than £30,000 in three days. “We Jews are no strangers to being on the wrong end of racism and fascism,” Ms Henriques said. “Our faith demands protection for the weakest and most vulnerable in our society. “The amount raised for the Romanian shopkeeper­s shows how much the people of Norwich care for all its citizens. It’s important that we build on difference­s to enrich and enhance our lives.”
