Bibi denies money-laundering rumours
IN HIS first ever prime minister’s questions on Monday, Benjamin Netanyahu denied rumours that an investigation into money-laundering by his eldest son had been launched.
Attorney General Avichai Mendelblit has confirmed that a police probe relating to the prime minister, among other people, is ongoing, but has added no details about the allegations against Mr Netanyahu. In the absence of substantive information, rumours have abounded on the internet.
On Monday, MK Yael CohenParan used parliamentary privilege to ask whether the rumours that his son, Yair, had been issued a passport under an assumed name and used it to open a bank accout in Panama, were true. Mr Netanyahu flatly denied the rumour, saying “there is a deluge of inventions and lies”. The Prime Minister was taking questions as part of a initiative by Knesset speaker Yuli Edelstein whereby a different minister takes questions each week from MKs of all parties.
