JEWISH TURKISH POLITICIAN SHOT

THE deputy mayor of Istanbul’s Sisli district, Cemil Candas, who is Jewish, was shot in the head this week by an unknown attacker. Mr Candas was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition. It is unclear whether the shooting was connected to the attempted coup. Turkey’s main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) runs the prosperous Sisli district. The CHP has condemned the failed uprising.
