Shameful priority
Some of the poorest Jewish families in London live in Stamford Hill. Charities are constantly being asked to support these ultra-Orthodox families who rely on benefits because the men — usually “students” — are ill-equipped to get any kind of job.
Is it not shameful to raise £1 million for a child custody war chest and then keep asking for help for housing and other basic needs?
Yet £1 million was raised easily among various Chasidic sects. Where is the humanity in ignoring poverty in the community and expecting other organisations to support needy families when it is obvious that the local wealth could look after everybody?
These children in huge families didn’t ask to be born into poverty and denied access to educational opportunities to make their own decisions in life. Sue Fox London NW11
