Abrahams ready for bigger tests

- BYDANNYCARO

FOOTBALL RAY Abrahams insists last season’s title success is no more than a distant memory ahead of the start of the new MGBSFL season.

Scrabble FC have added seven players to the squad that marked their return to the league by lifting the Division Two title, while five have departed.

Josh Tiano captains the team which Abrahams says will be “focused in every game as we are going to be in a tough division this year where there are some good sides looking to go up”.

Ricky Lawrence admits SPEC FC have it all to do in their debut season in the Premier Division. Having lost Zack Neiman and brothers Alex and Josh Hershman, player-manager Lawrence has drafted in Jonny Kaye and Brad Cohen. Asked for his hopes for the campaign, Lawrence said: “To fight bravely against relegation.”

Sam Rose will join David Domb in the dug-out at North London Raiders C.

Joel Levitt, Matthew Geppart and Alex Faktor have joined a squad that Domb insists “will push for promotion”. He commented: “We were unlucky to miss out last term, but the boys are fully refreshed we’re ready to push for a place in the top two once again.”

Brandon Hamme, manager of new boys Mill Hills Dons, is quietly confident of a good showing.

Promising to bring a “Barcelonaesque style of play to the league” the arrival of hot-shot Jono Gaon is one that will certainly excite their fans.

Nick Grosse has overseen a “revamp” at Los Blancos. He insists the team will be pushing for a “top-three finish, with promotion being our ultimate goal”.

Grosse has drafted in James Joseph, Avi Kestenbaum, Joel Barnett, Joshua Gertner, Josh Cramer, Elliot Moslawy, Josh Hirshowitz, Luke Strauss, Josh Landy, George Collins and Joe Metliss.

Athletic Bilbaum must overcome the departure of key players Josh Pugh and Ben Bell to mix it with the best this season.

Centre-back Ben Cantopher will lead by example in a team that features a “young, cohesive unit, with a solid structure and a dangerous attack”.

Joel Holder described Alon Pinhas, Josh Aziz and Yoel Deal as “the ones to watch” ahead of Finchley City FC’s debut season.

Holder said: “We’ll play attacking football with flair.”
