CHESHIRE & MANCHESTER SUNDAY FL SOUTH MANCHESTER SC 1ST CHORLTON SPORTS FC

FOOTBALL ADAM Lavin was the toast of South Manchester after leading the team to their first win in the Cheshire and Manchester Sunday League.

South created several chances in the opening 10 minutes and their efforts were rewarded when Toby Levy fired them ahead.

Chorlton equalised before Lavin opened his account with the first of three left-footed strikes. He beat two defenders before rifling his shot into the net.

Dave Stewart connected with a Levy corner to make it 3-1 at half-time.

S o u t h continued to press in the second half but it was Chorlt o n w h o scored next to set up an exciting final 30 minutes. The lethal Lavin had the final say by securing the points, much to the relief of manager Neil Collins.

He said: “The Chesman League will be a challenge for us this year. We lost to a very strong team last week so credit to the boys for bouncing back and registering our first victory. “It’s also great to see the young boys coming through to the first team. From Josh Darcy and Ben Brownson to the ageless Mark Stewart, the team ranges from 17-55.” Manchester Maccabi 1st returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over defending champions Trafford Mersey. Goals from Sam Van Gelder and Max Foster guided Maccabi to victory. Jason Hamburger and Daniel Rubenstien scored as Maccabi 2nd lost 3-2 against Mace.
