Winning is everything says Redbridge boss

- BYDANNYCARO

FOOTBALL JON Jacobs insists it was the result rather than the performance that mattered as a solitary strike from Dean Nyman helped Redbridge JC A maintain their winning start against title rivals Oakwood A.

Defences dominated in the MGBSFL Premier Division contest but Nyman settled the contest after capitalising on an error from Oakwood goalkeeper Jonny Blain to slot home.

RJC boss Jon Jacobs said: “We would have lost last season but there is a plan B now with players more than happy to mix it when needed.

“The pitch didn’t help either team as it was bobbly but we will take the win in the knowledge that you can’t play champagne football every week.”

Oakwood joint manager Dan Kristall felt the visitors “probably edged a tight game where chances were few and far between”.

“Don’t write us off yet, we will be in the title hunt at the end of the season,” he said. “We look forward to the return trip to Essex where we will also be able to welcome back several players that were not involved.”

Defending champions North London Raiders A suffered a second consecutive defeat as they were beaten 3-2 by Hendon United SC A. Liron Mannie had put NLR ahead but Hendon hit back through Rocky Spitzer and Zac Lewis. Mannie set up a grandstand finish by making it 2-2 only for Yoav Kestenbaum to win it for Hendon late on.

Hendon boss David Garbacz commented: “We fielded one of the youngest teams in Hendon history and thoroughly deserved the three points.”

NLR boss Dan Shafron admitted: “These past two weeks haven’t been easy with several injuries and boys away in key positions who have been at the core of this team over the past couple of years.

“But they are nearly all back and I can feel that it is only a matter of time before we turn this around.”

Newly-promoted Brady Maccabi enjoyed a dream start with Reiss Mogilner (4), Josh Newman and an own goal earning them a 6-1 success over SPEC FC. Brady co-boss Josh Dagul said: “We knew that we would have to step up our level with promotion to the Premier Division and all 13 players delivered on the day.”

A solitary effort from James Gershfield earned Maccabi London Lions A victory over Camden Park.

The Lions were also indebted to a superb performance from goalkeeper Sam Castle to keep Camden at bay.

MLL joint manager Joe Marsh said: “We’ve started the season with two wins but have not hit anywhere near top form yet.”
