FOOTBALL ADAM Shiffman scored four times as MJSL leaders Haroldeans maintained their 100 per cent start to the MJSL season. Mike Bloomberg’s side already appear to be the side to beat but the new Haroldeans manager is refusing to get carried away after Max Barnett and Zack Goldsmith completed a 6-1 win over South Manchester 2nd. He said: “It’s been a great start and I couldn’t have asked anymore from my players. But we can’t get too far ahead of ourselves. It’s a cliche but we must take it one game at a time, otherwise we can get unstuck. “There are a lot of teams who can cause us trouble this season. So while we are delighted with where we are, we all know that it’s just the start.”

FOOTBALL AVI Markiewicz described RCUK FC’s 6-0 cup routing of Brixton Old Boys as a “remarkable achievement”.

Doubles from Aron Luftig and Jonti Aremband, along with one apiece from Avi Mocton and Dudi Edryei guided the MGBSFL new boys to one of the shocks of the round in the Cyril Anekstein Cup.

RCUK FC player-manager Markiewicz commented: “Brixton are an experienced team while we are brand new coming off the back of a couple of disappointing results.

“To beat a team that is a division higher than you is an amazing achievement under any circumstances, never mind to do so in such emphatic fashion.”

The weekend’s other cup upset saw first division Redbridge Jewish Care B eliminate Premier Division Woodford Wanderers.

Strikes from Adam Goldman and Craig Sandford steered RJC through alongside their A-team who received a bye after Athletic Bilbaum forfeited due to a shortage of players.

Woodford boss Daryl Kay commented: “Depleted numbers cost us dearly again.

“We had no substitutes and we were forced to field a makeshift goalkeeper.

“I felt as though we were the better team for the majority of the game and both their goals came from our mistakes.

“It was not a good day for us, but we have a couple of weeks off now so our injured players can recover before giving our season the kickstart it needs.”
