Father runs for hospice which cared for his boy

- BY CHARLOTTE OLIVER

THE FATHER of a baby boy who died from a brain tumour has raised almost £16,000 for the children’s hospice that cared for him in his final days.

Steven Brodie from Whetstone ran the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon alongside nine friends and family in memory of his son Isaac.

Isaac was born in February with a mass on his brain which, after 12 days of tests at Great Ormond S t r e e t Hospital, was diagnosed as an incurable brain tumour.

The family were transferred to Haven House in Essex, where Isaac’s ventilator was removed.

Against the odds, Isaac lived on for another six days and the hospice provided “amazing” care, said The Brodies with baby Isaac and Steven Brodie on the half marathon course Mr Brodie, 31, a Muswell Hill Synagogue member. He took on the challenge of the half marathon despite having “never run a mile” previously. His fellow runners have swelled the proceeds for Haven to £27,000. “H a v e n House reall y l o o k e d after my wife Rachel and I, even providing us with kosher food,” he said. “The most i m p o r t a n t g i f t o f a l l was the conf i dence a nd a b i l i t y t hey gave us to make s ur e o ur l i t - tle soldier was c o mfor t a b l e and relaxed at all times during those difficult final days. “We really a p p r e c i a t e d what they did. This will hopefully be the first of many things we do this year to thank them.”
