Marchant bankscup upset

- BYDANNYCARO

FOOTBALL SAM Marchant expressed delight after Maccabi Lon

don Lions B registered the shock of the round in the Cyril Anekstein Cup against Premier Division FC Team A.

An extra-time strike from Charlie Cohen sent the MGBSFL Division One leaders into the quarter-finals of the League Cup after a five-goal thriller. Adam Abadi hauled the Lions level before Zak Linden put them in charge, with Mitch Young and an own goal accounting for the FC Team goals.

Lions boss Marchant said: “We knew it would be a tough test facing opposition from the division above. We managed to find our way back into the game, taking control of the midfield.

“We knew the game was there for the taking once they lost their goalkeeper to injury, but we made hard work of it. We stayed patient and tried to break

down a very deep-lying defence.”

Josh Bharier (2), Elliot Espinoza (2) and Adam Waters helped Scrabble FC progress 5-2 against Faithfold B. Scrabble boss Ray Abrahams said: “We had that bit of extra quality on the ball that comes from a team in a higher division.” Avi Garson and Sam Garson were the marksmen for Faithfold.

Ben Kohler suffered a double leg break and ligament damage as Brady

Maccabi went down 3-2 against topflight rivals Camden Park. Mike Khalatschi (2) and Josh Marks set up the victory, with Reiss Mogilner scoring twice for Brady.

A brilliant cameo from super-sub Oli Sade eased Finchley City to a 7-0 demolition of FCTeamB. Finchley boss Joel Holder said: “The boys were magnificent. We were fluid in our attacks, dominant in possession and clinical in our finishing.”

“We know we can gi v e a nyone a game if we play li k e we di d today.” Cup holders NorthLondonRaiders A turned on the style to crush Los Blan

cos 12-0. Jordan Marks (4), Ben Ellis (3), Liron Mannie (3), Nyv Bogaire and Alex Bloch eased them through.

NLR boss Dan Shafron commented: “Today was more about our general performance than the amount of goals we scored. I wanted to see a big response in our mentality from beginning to end.

“It could have been 1-0 and my interest still would have only been on certain elements of our performance, and so the scoreline for me was irrelevant.”

Former winners Hendon A stormed through after hitting Division Two new boys RCUKFC for six. Star performer Avi Korman (2), Ari Last, Zac Lewis, Josh Harris and Zac Garbacz, with his first for the club, were the goal men. Akiva Zneimer fired a consolation.

Hendon manager David Garbacz, who missed the match, said: “We managed to pull clear with the pick of the bunch being a superb team move which was finished off in style by young Zac Garbacz, the only downside being I wasn’t there to witness it.”

RCUKbossAviMarkiewiczremarked: “Today was tough for us to take. We let our heads drop in the second half and so our shape and discipline went out the window.

“I’m not going to say we did well or I’m proud because I’m not. I don’t care who the other team is, I never like losing and the way we ended off the game wasn’t good enough.” Premier Division leaders Redbridge

Jewish Care A were given an almighty scare before seeing off first division Oakwood B in extra-time.

In the end, strikes from Danny Berg, Ben Sollosi, Dean Nyman and Russell

Goldstein steered RJC through. Oakwood’s goals came through Daniel Selwyn, Rafi Bloom and Max Clynes.

RJC boss Jon Jacobs said: “This game can only be described as a wake-up call for Redbridge. This was the toughest game we’ve had, and that includes the league game against Oakwood A.

“Breathing a huge sigh of relief, we will take that and move on to the last eight.”

Oakwood’s Jason Stein said: “We spoke about every single player needing to play to their absolute best, for us to work hard, be prepared, be committed and to be brave, and that is exactly what happened.”

Ollie Craig (2) and Adam Arnold steered LionsA to a 3-1 success over Redbridge B. Ben Chernoff replied. A goal direct from a corner from Lee Warner guided OakwoodA to within a point of top spot in the MGBSFL Premier Division as they edged past Woodford Wanderers.

Oakwood joint-manager Dan Kristall said: “We now go into a four-week break in the league where other teams can catch up. Hopefully Hendon and Redbridge will play each other at some point because once these fixtures have taken place, only then will we see a true reflection of the table.

“Once we do return to action, and Brad Wine, Guy Helman, Sam Cantor and Zack Collins return from injury, I think we will show the league that we are the team to beat.”

Josh Alswang fired a deadly double on debut as NL Raiders B destroyed struggling Brixton Old Boys 7-0 in Division One. Further strikes from Simon Buchler, Alex Goodman, Charles Braunstein and Or Shmerling sealed the points.

NLR joint-manager Jonathan Adelman said: “All credit to Brixton — all of us in Jewish football have been on the end of difficult results over the years — and in contrast to some teams, they never stopped battling, their heads never dropped and they didn’t resort to unsportsmanlike behaviour.”

David Domb believes NL Raiders C are back to their best after crushing former leaders Catford & Bromley Mac

cabi 6-0 in Division Two. Doubles from Alex Elf and Liam Stein, along with Alex Sherr and an own goal added the gloss. NLR joint-manager Domb said: “We spoke about belief and making a statement, and although they finishedthegamewith10men,wewere utterly dominant.”

L’Equipe continued their merciless march towards the title with an impressive 4-2 win over promotion rivals Red

bridge C. Max Martin (2), Mark Singer and Jon Kay earned L’Equipe their sixth win in seven league matches. Jimmy Castle and Refe Neiman replied for RJC.

“It’s only one more win, that’s what I keep telling every member of my squad,” said L’Equipe boss Nick Stern. “But the attitude and desire they keep on showing every week excites me for the rest of the season.”

Brandon Hamme insists the 4-3 victory over Real Hendon is a sign of the rapid improvement made by his Mill

Hill Dons team. Zack Cohen (3) and Adam Isaacs helped them overturn a deficit to win 4-3.

Hamme commented: “We feel like we can challenge anyone we play at the moment .”

Simon Linden said hat-trick hero Gab Stone “had a point to prove” against a Hertswood Vale team who rejected him last summer. Jordan Sharifian (2) and Dean Shaw also registered in the 6-1 win. Elio Elia replied for Vale.
