A trove of joy

The serendipitous discovery of boxes from the Liberal Jewish Synagogue’s religion school in 1915 and 1916 is a joy. Some of the contributions are genuinely witty. Others are moving. But above all one is struck by the children’s quality of expression. As the archive shows, children do not need to be refugees to be affected by war.
