Revealed — the darker side of Limmud activity

- BY LIANNE KOLIRIN

LIMMUD IS going nocturnal in a bid to attract a new audience.

Post-Shabbat on March 4, Limmud After Dark in Northwood will begin with a musical havdalah led by Rabbi David Soetendorp and klezmer band Tantz.

Speakers will include Rabbi Jonathan Romain and Clive Lawton and programme topics will run the gamut from Leonard Cohen to Donald Trump and from the Jewish history of vodka to the Jewish values of a sushi master.

The event is being hosted by Harrow Limmud and looks set to be a sellout with around 400 participants.

Doreen Samuels, one of the organisers, was inspired by a Limmud she attended on holiday. “When I was in New Zealand two years ago I went to Limmud there. It started with a havdalah which was really lovely.”

She hopes the event’s timing will bring in more young professionals. “People who have never been to Limmud before will come to this and will be desperate to come to the next one,” she said.
