Israeli women on the money

-

THE Bank of Israel has chosen a pair of female poets to appear on new banknotes. The 20-shekel note will display Rachel Bluwstein, who died in 1931, with words from her poem, Kinneret, while the orange 100-shekel will carry the head of Leah Goldberg, who died in 1970, and a quotation from her poem White Days.

The last woman to appear on an Israeli note was former Prime Minister Golda Meir. Not sure what rabbis who object to the public display of women’s faces will make of the new money, though.
