Jewish and Mus­lim women’s talk show

A TURNOUT of more than 150 is ex­pected at the UK’s first Jewish/ Mus­lim women’s con­fer­ence, “Chal­leng­ing the Nar­ra­tive”, be­ing held at the Univer­sity of West­min­ster on Sun­day.

There will be prom­i­nent speak­ers from the worlds of pol­i­tics, char­ity, academia, me­dia and re­li­gion. Tack­ling an­ti­semitism and Is­lam­o­pho­bia and fe­male em­pow­er­ment are among dis­cus­sion top­ics at the con­fer­ence, be­ing run by Nisa-Nashim, the na­tional Jewish Mus­lim Women’s Net­work.

Laura Marks, co-founder of NisaNashim, said: “By bring­ing peo­ple to­gether, we are show­cas­ing the qual­ity of our women, their in­ter­est in the key is­sues of our times and their abil­ity and will­ing­ness to chal­lenge the neg­a­tive nar­ra­tive.”

Added an­other co-founder, Julie Sid­diqi, for­mer ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tor of the Is­lamic So­ci­ety of Bri­tain: “We can learn from each other and start to tackle se­ri­ous com­mu­nity chal­lenges. I’m look­ing for­ward to ex­plor­ing this at the con­fer­ence and be­yond.”
