TUBE delays can send awry the best laid plans, and no one knows this better than Matthew Offord, MP for Hendon.

The politician was en route to Westminster on Wednesday to hold a debate on “Iran’s influence in the Middle East” but was cruelly forestalled by the Northern Line. While fellow Conservative MPs tried to convince the committee chair to delay proceedings beyond 9.31am, their pleas were rejected as “out of order”.

Surely Iran’s influence couldn’t possibly stretch from the Middle East to Edgware via Charing Cross?
