NUS CONDEMNS MEMBERS WHO GO ON TRIPS TO ISRAEL

-

THE National Union of Students’ national executive committee has censured its vicepresident, Richard Brooks, despite an internal report clearing him of conspiring with the Israeli government to oust Malia Bouattia as NUS president.

Mr Brooks had referred himself to the NEC in January after he was filmed by an undercover journalist on an Al Jazeera TV documentary saying he was “helping organise” oppostion to Ms Bouattia.

At its meeting on Tuesday, the NEC also passed a motion reaffirming the union’s commitment to the BDS movement and condemning members who broke NUS policy by visiting Israel on trips funded by the Union of Jewish Students.

In a statement, UJS said: “In recent years, NUS NEC has become an opportunity for many to vilify and demonise Israel, often going as far as to question the motives and work of UJS.

“This week’s NUS NEC meeting was no different; it can simply be described as farcical.”
