In Geneva and loving my life

cedes fully-autonomous self-driving system fitted to each. This is a very clever piece of onboard computer wizardry which adjusts the speed according to traffic conditions and guides itself through bends. It’ll even overtake the car in front. However, it does take a massive leap of faith to trust its piloting skills are as good as yours.

Switch off the autopilot, take back control, and this new E-Coupe is just as accurate under human guidance. Opt for the £1,495 air suspension (again, fitted to our test cars), and you’d be hard pressed to find any 2+2 coupe, even those costing twice as much money, which would soak-up long-distance miles so effortlessly.

But there’s something else you need to understand about this car, the thing which makes it so special. The E-Class Coupe is more than just being another smart coupe; it’s a spirit-soaring, life-affirming, gift of a car which will keep on giving.

And that’s the reason why I really rate it.

Iwrite to you on the first press day from the exhibition halls of the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, which will open its doors to the public from 9-19th March. Thus far, I’ve seen the satin covers pulled back to reveal a fine array of new and concept cars. And, oh my, the Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar is bitethe-back-of-your-hand gorgeous, as is the amazing looking Audi 450hp twinturbo V6 RS5. Just off to see the debut of the all-electric Bentley EXP12 Speed 6e concept, a 800hp naturally-aspirated V12 Ferrari, an all-new McLaren and a ‘ring record breaking’ Lamborghini. There are some days when I’m so pleased to be me, and today is one of them.
