Israel can test Spain

- BY SIMON GRIVER

FOOTBALL ELISHA Levy insists Israel will show no fear when they play former World Cup winners Spain later today.

Israel will be looking to record a major surprise against a Spain team who lead Group G on goal difference from Italy, level on 10 points, in Gijon.

The visitors, a further point behind, started the campaign with a promising performance which ended in a 3-1 home defeat against Italy. This was followed by victories over Liechtenstein, Macedonia and Albania.

Israel boss Levy has selected a fullstrength squad with the exception of goalkeeper Dudu Goresh, who is suspended. Brighton’s Beram Kayal returns while Levy has resisted recalling veteran players Yossi Benayoun and Tal Ben Haim on the grounds that he is building a team for Euro 2020.

“They may be one of the best teams in the world, but we’re not going to Spain to mess around,” insisted Levy.

“There’s a buzz about our team after the last three results.”
