Redbridge ready for one final push for title, says Jacobs

- BY DANNY CARO

FOOTBALL JON Jacobs insists Redbridge Jewish Care can cope with the weight of expectation as they look to secure the MGBSFL Premier Division title on Sunday.

A 4-2 win over current champions North London Raiders means victory over Hendon United will see them lift the title on the final day of the season. But a draw or defeat would see the crown go to long-time leaders Oakwood A.

Strikes from Ben Sollosi, Steve Summers, Sam Sollosi and Adam Hakimi ensured RJC recovered from last weekend’s Cyril Anekstein Cup final defeat against Maccabi London Lions in style. Oscar Wagner and Alex Bloch accounted for the NLR goals.

Jacobs said: “One more game is the mantra of this resilient Redbridge team.

“Our match against Raiders felt more like a cup final than a league game, but we did just enough to send the title race into the final week.

“We go to Hadley on Sunday and are ready to take on our perennial rivals and bring the title back to Redbridge.”

Sam Kanter scored the goal of the game as Finchley City gave outgoing manager Joel Holder the perfect sendoff by beating Oakwood B 4-3

Eli Davila, Yoel Deal and Rafi Kon completed the scoring.

Oakwood led 3-1 through Sam Cantor (2) and Daniel Selwyn with 15 minutes to go, and “absolutely collapsed,” according to boss Jason Stein.

He added: “It was a pretty bad way to end the season.”

Avi Markiewicz (2), Jonti Aremband (2), Avi Levy, Zalmy Cohen and Akiva Solomon fired RC UK FC to a 7-0 success over Hertswood Vale.

RC UK player-manager Avi Markiewicz commented: “We played some good football and bossed the game, without ever really leaving second gear.

“It was important we avenged our loss from a few games ago, our worst performance of the season.”
