MFA to investigate brawl

- BY DARREN WITCOOP

FOOTBALL MANCHESTER MACCABI 1st saw their Stuart Gordon Cup final date descend into chaos as ugly scenes saw the clash abandoned with Park Villa.

A 65th minute confrontation saw the Wythenshawe final end early. Park Villa were leading 3-0 but the match was brought to an immediate halt following a series of altercations.

Manchester Maccabi assistant-manager Tony Gellman said: “The matter is in the hands of the Manchester FA.”

It is believed the violent scenes were sparked when a Park Villa player reacted to a tackle.

The Maccabi players pleaded for peace but the referee had no other choice but to abandon the game.

Park Villa did not respond to requests for comment.

Ironically, Maccabi were due to play to Park Villa in Sunday’s final league game in the Cheshire and Manchester League. That fixture has already been postponed.
