Trump backlash flops as Ossoff loses Atlanta race

-

JEWISH DEMOCRAT Jon Ossoff failed in his muchpublicised attempt to win the seat of Atlanta, Georgia, in a congressional election on Tuesday. The closely-fought battle in the Republican stronghold was widely seen as a referendum on Donald Trump’s presidency. Mr Ossoff took 47 per cent of the vote, while his Republican rival, Karen Handel, won 53 per cent. Mr Ossoff told his supporters they had provided “a beacon of hope for people here in Georgia, for people across the country, and for people around the world”. The district’s 58,000 Jews make up about eight per cent of its overall population.
