Lamp worth more than a candle

-

HERE’S a silver menorah worthy of gracing your window-sill — if you can afford the £150,000 to £250,000 it is expected to fetch next month at auction at Sotheby’s in London.

Dating back to 1711, it is the second earliest known example of an English Chanukah lamp and was fashioned by the goldsmith Samuel Edlin. It featured in the AngloJudaica exhibition at the Royal Albert Hall in 1887. The oldest known chanukiah, now in London’s Jewish Museum, predates it by just two years.
