Artistic residents are highly prized by Barnet
RESIDENTS OF Jewish Care homes received prizes for artistic talent at Barnet’s celebration of Silver Sunday, a nationwide day of recognition for the elderly in the UK.
They were among the 300 people at the event at Woodhouse College, which featured tea and entertainment.
Otto Schiff and Rela Goldhill at Otto Schiff residents took joint first place with a wall display created during an arts programme where participants painted 42 squares that were linked with cables.
Rubens House residents were joint second for an elaborate wedding quilt incorporating their own wedding photos.
A joint third prize was awarded for a painted bag created by residents at Clore Manor.
Prizes were presented by Barnet Mayor Councillor Brian Salinger and the winners received vouchers for art materials. The works have since been displayed at Brent Cross Shopping Centre.
Marietta Adami, a resident of Rela Goldhill at Otto Schiff, said she “really enjoyed doing the artwork. I hardly missed a session and when I heard we had won, I was delighted for everyone in the group.”
Caroline D’Souza, Jewish Care’s creative arts development manager, said the awards reflected efforts “to create high quality, meaningful and engaging participatory arts programmes for residents across our homes”.
