-

TABLE TENNIS Millie Rogove has been selected to play for England at next month’s Home Countries International in Guernsey.

Having won gold and silver medals at Table Tennis England National Championships towards the end of last season, Rogove, 13, is currently ranked no. 10 in the country at Cadet girls under 15 level.

Her selection is reward for a run of eight victories in 10 matches at the Junior British League at the Derby Arena last month. Rogove is one of 13 players in the England squad who will compete against rivals from Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey. The team event will be held on the first two days, with singles competitions on the third day. Just a few days later, Rogove’s selection for her country was her springboard to go on to win the Women’s Band 4 Singles trophy at the Table Tennis England Grand Prix event in Crawley. She was also runner-up in the U21 Women’s Singles. In the latter event, after three five-set matches and a 3-1 win in the semifinal, she was beaten in the final by Lois Peake, currently ranked no. 4 in England in the U21 category. Rogove said: “I played well against good opponents and I’m really looking forward to playing for England.”

Earlier this year, Rogove won the Junior Girls singles title at the Maccabi GB National Table Tennis Championships, beating Jessica Abrahams in the final.

Millie, together with her brother, Louis, 15, from Totteridge, regularly attend Table Tennis England accredited competitions held all over the country. Millie finished runner-up in the Cadet Girls in the first one of the season last month.

Louis – a top 50 ranked Junior (U18) – won the U21 Men’s final in straight sets against Cacherel Mercer from Middlesex.

JCoSS pupil Louis, who also trains at Urban TTC, was a silver medallist at Table Tennis England National Championships Cadet Boys Consolation.
