Reich put to the sword

- BY DARREN WITCOOP

HAROLDEANS 6 REICH 1

MICHAEL GASTWIRTH read the riot act to his Reich players after their latest horror show at Haroldeans. Reich were hit for six by the league leaders, with Adam Shiffman bagging a hat-trick in a game which saw both sides reduced to 10 men in the first half.

But it was the manner of the heavy defeat which incensed director of football Gastwirth who pulled no punches in his withering assessment.

He said: “There were too many individual, schoolboy errors and that cost us silly goals once again. That’s something we need to eradicate from our game.

“The sending off of Rafi Klyne certainly didn’t help our cause. And even though we had chances to get ourselves back into the game, we were just not clinical enough.

Harris and Klyne saw red midway through the first-half after an altercation. Gastwirth said: “Haroldeans are a good side and dealt with the loss of Paul Harris better than we dealt with losing Rafi as they had experienced players to bring into the game.”

The score was 1-1 at the time with Dovi Klyne cancelling out Harris’s opener. The floodgates opened after the break with Shiffman bagging his treble. Taylor Moss and Eden Harris also netted. The champions look in ominous form but Haroldeans boss Mike Bloomberg believes there is still more to come from his side.

Bloomberg said: “I’m pleased with the result, if not the performance. We were sloppy in parts, although with just three goals conceded in the five games, that’s a great statistic. It’s something we can be proud of. It reflects well on our back four and our 16-year-old goalkeeper Jared Clein.”

MACCABI MACCABI BLUE 1 LEEDS MACCABI 5

OLI ABRAHAMSON’S hat-trick kept Leeds Maccabi on the coat-tails of the MJSL leaders. Just like last season, the Yorkshiremen and Haroldeans look set to slug it out for the title.

Rival clubs might yet have a say in the shake-up but boss Adam Kristall remarked: “We are looking very good at the moment. It was another very strong performance. We completely blew them away in the first half. The squad are coming together and gelling nicely at this early stage.”

Nick Vale and an own goal completed the rout, with the home side claiming a consolation via Marley Rubins.

South Manchester 1st remain unbeaten after a 6-4 win over South Manchester 2nds in a thriller. Roy Fux (3), Jonny Franks (2) and James Rosenberg were on target.

Josh Gordon (2), Adam Tuck and Mark Williams were on target for South 2nds.
