JAMES GERSHFIELD insists Lions White “can go all the way” in the competition after a five-star performance against Premier Division rivals Camden. Conor Perl (2), Tyler Smith (2) and Eshed Calman eased the Lions through, with Kane Gilbery replying for Camden. Lions boss Gershfield said: “We defended well for the first 25 minutes which gave us a platform to build on and we didn’t look back after two quickfire strikes.” Camden manager Stirling Kay said: “This was our worst performance of the season and it must not happen again.”

CATFORD & BROMLEY HMH OLD BOYS

GUY BEN-AROYA was the hero as Catford held their nerve to overcome HMH on penalties. George Goldberg fired the students in front but a 30-yard freekick from recent arrival Sam Reeves hauled Catford level. Ben-Aroya saved HMH’s fifth spot-kick before Catford captain Joel Lassman tucked home the decisive strike. Catford manager Jeff Gotch said: “We won and deservedly so against a young side littered with Premier Division players.”

FAIRLOP FC 10 HERTSWOOD VALE 1

JAMES JACONELLI (3), Daniel Bean (2), Adam Goldman (2), Max Freedman, Daniel Rosen and Bradley Gayer were the marksmen as Fairlop registered double figures against Division Two rivals Hertswood. Josh Cohen grabbed a consolation and Hertswood joint-manager Jacob Emanuel said: “We scraped 11 players together on the morning of the match, so credit to all of my guys who played for putting in the effort.” Fairlop boss Aaron Dias declined to comment on the tie as he feels the club have been “unfairly treated by the league” following their recent points deduction.

ML LIONS BLUE BAYERN MINCHA

JAMES HARPIN saved three penalties as Lions Blue avoided an upset against second division Bayern Mincha. Adam Ellis had given Bayern the lead before the Lions drew level via an own goal. MLL’s Sammy Kingston commented: “We had the majority of possession, had more than 20 shots on goal and would perhaps have won comfortably on another day. Bayern stuck to their game-plan, made it really difficult for us and deserve credit.” Bayern jointmanager Daniel Holder said: “We completely matched a team who are competing in the Premier Division for over 120 minutes and easily had the better chances to win the game.”

NL RAIDERS B 1 LOS BLANCOS 4

SIMON MOSES was the hat-trick hero as Los Blancos completed a cup double over Division One rivals North London Raiders B. Gav Krieger sealed the win. David Simnock fired a consolation for Raiders. Blancos’s Joel Barnett said: “We bossed the game from start to finish and should have scored more. No Premier Division team will want to face Blancos, who seem a match for anyone this year.”

exacted revenge on Faithfold for their League Cup exit, sealing a smooth passage into the third round of the National cup competition. Steve Summers and Nathan Sollosi scored hattricks, with Sam Sollosi and Ben Sollosi completing the scoring. Redbridge coboss Jacobs said: “The memory of Faithfold’s shock win earlier in the season was well and truly forgotten. This is the standard of play we have come to expect and served as a good warm-up for the big Premier League games to come.” Faithfold player-manager Avi Markiewicz admits he felt let down by some players. He said: “I don’t like making excuses, because it happens to everyone, but we had too many key players missing. We can cope with this against teams in our division but against Premiership opposition you need all your best players available. People pulling out on the morning of the match doesn’t help. It baffles me how they can do that.”

MIKE BLOOMBERG believes the bar has been raised in the MJSL this season.

Bloomberg plotted the Merseysiders’ march to the title last term but they are not having it all their own way this time around.

Haroldeans remain top, with goals from Max Barnett, Maxim Green and Ben Kersh, after recovering from Andy Hatton’s opener for Maccabi Manchester Blue.

Haroldeans boss Bloomberg said: “All credit to Maccabi Blue, they were well organised and committed.

“It only confirmed my opinion that the league is much more competitive this season.

“We are our own worst enemies at times.

“Once again we started too slowly but made changes at half-time which made the difference.”

JAMES MURAWA’S second-half strike earned in-form Sedgley Park Celtic a 1-0 win over South Manchester 2nds.

The victory ensures Sedgley Park remain firmly in the title race, alongside Haroldeans, South Manchester Sports 1st and Leeds Maccabi.
