Lee and Solomons up for PanAm challenge
FOOTBALL Darryl Lee insists Maccabi GB will go into unknown territory at the 2019 Pan American Maccabi Games in Mexico.
Lee will manage the Masters 45-plus football squad together with
Adam Solomons and he is confident the pair’s international experience will stand them in good stead.
“I am delighted to be able to return to the PanAm
Games where, with
Adam, I was fortunate enough to lead the Masters 35s to a gold medal in Argentina in 2007.
“Unlike the Maccabiah and European Maccabi Games, there is an element of the unknown about managing a team in South America and managing with Adam works well as we are similar Darryl Lee minded and know what we want to achieve.” Trials are planned next spring and the squad is expected to be finalised by the end of the current football season.
Lee said: “The period from selection to the tournament is only 12 months and the aim is to create an experience for the squad that will encourage success on the pitch and lasting MGB memories off it.”
Solomons enjoyed a successful playing career at Wingate & Finchley and London Lions and has also represented MGB as a player and manager seven times at the Maccabiah Games, EMG and Pan Am Games.
He said: “To be able to be part of a group attending a Games in Mexico for the first time is very exciting.” Adam Fegan will coach the squad. Adam Solomons
