Shell-shocked Lions are hit for six on a ‘bad day’

- BY JC REPORTER

FOOTBALL LONDON Lions suffered a shock defeat at Winslow to end their long-standing winning streak.

All seemed to be calm after a good start, but two bizarre incidents sent Lions behind at half-time. Firstly, goalkeeper James Harpin and defender Nick Landesberg got into a tangle to allow Winslow a simple opportunity to open the scoring.

Soon after, Winslow were awarded a free-kick a yard from the goal-line after a sliced clearance was adjudged to have been a back-pass caught by Harpin. Winslow took full advantage to make it 2-0. Lions still could have scored a few themselves before the break, but the Winslow goal lived a charmed life as the visitors wasted their opportunities.

Lions regrouped at the break and came out ready to mount a comeback as Mitch Hahn halved the deficit within minutes of the restart.

But Winslow added further goals without reply, which despite Lions missing further opportunities, manager Andy Landesberg put down to “one of those days”.

Lions will be looking to get their promotion bid back on track against fellow high-flyers Enfield Borough at Rowley Lane this weekend.

LIONS: James Harpin, Jake Rinsler, Adam Lipman, Nick Landesberg, Adam Myeroff, Jordan Marks, Max Kyte, Austin Lipman, Adam Bolle, Austin Lipman, Adam Burchell. Subs: Charlie Rubin, Tyler Smith.
