Lions brave comeback fires them into the top three

- BY JC REPORTER

FOOTBALL LONDON LIONS staged a thrilling second-half fightback to overcome promotion-chasing rivals Enfield Borough at Rowley Lane.

The 4-2 victory saw Lions end the year in a season-high third place in the Spartan Midlands League Division One table.

Keeper James Harpin was forced into two great saves before Enfield’s impressive play earned them a two-goal lead at the interval, their first coming from a set-piece.

Lions came back into it and should have scored at least one in reply. Adam Bolle fired over and then slid one wide, while Charlie Kasler blew a couple of golden chances. Lions had looked good at the back with Tom Smith making his debut in the middle and Jake Rinsler impressing at full back, but a rare lapse saw Enfield steal the ball and double their lead in the 45th minute.

But Lions regrouped at the break and showed they have what it takes to make a real push for the Premier Division as they scored four times in 30 devastating minutes.

On the hour, Nick Landesberg nodded home the first and 18 minutes later Lions were level when a wicked Adam Myeroff cross from the left was powerfully headed in by an Enfield defender. Just three minutes later the comeback was complete. Adam Lipman weaved his way to the byline before dinking a cross invitingly into the path of substitute Liron Mannie, who dispatched a diving header into the roof of the net to thrill the crowd.

Lions had time for one more when Bolle got some reward for his shift up front, firing powerfully through the keeper’s hands on 90 minutes.

Manager Andy Landesberg said: “It was a great team performance to come back from 2-0 down against a very good side. We missed some good chances in the first half, but the key was we settled down and were able to put them away after the break.”
