TV couple blame Mossad for attack

A COUPLE who make regular appearances on the Gogglebox reality TV show have suggested that Israel was behind the nerve agent attack in Salisbury.

In a scene watched by millions of viewers, the couple, Giles Wood and Mary Killen, blamed Mossad for the attempted murder of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia.

The couple, from Wiltshire, made the comments on an episode of the popular Channel 4 series broadcast earlier this month. The show features people in their own homes reacting to television programmes.

Watching news coverage of the attack, Mr Wood suggests Israel’s intelligence agency may have been involved because it is “incredibly pro-active in the spy world”.

Ms Killen replies: “So Mossad could do it to demonise [Russian leader, Vladimir] Putin?”

Channel 4 explained that viewers of the show, who are accustomed to the couple’s exchanges, would understand that the comments were not intended to be taken seriously.

A spokeswoman for the channel said: “The Gogglebox families, like members of the public all over the UK, were speculating about the Salisbury attack. Five families were shown discussing it and theories ranged from Sherlock Holmes to film plots.”

Ms Killen and Mr Wood, who first appeared on Gogglebox three years ago, are known to fans for their “dry musings” and a habit of calling each other “Nutty”.
