GERMAN PROSECUTORS are investigating a theatre that is offering free seats to people who wear swastika arm bands.

It is illegal in Germany to display Nazi memorabilia.

Mein Kampf, by George Tabori, is reported to be a satire on Hitler’s autobiographical account of his early years. The run is due to begin today — Hitler’s birthday.

A spokesman from the prosecutor’s office in Konstanz said they had received a number of complaints.

The theatre said in response that it was a “social experiment” to show how easily people can be influenced. It said that 50 people had expressed interest in securing a free ticket.

The local German-Israeli society described the offer as “tasteless”. A spokesman said: “This marketing gimmick from the City Theater in Konstanz is unacceptable.”
