Find out if assisted living is your cup of tea

- BY MARTIN BENJAMIN BY MARTIN BENJAMIN

HOME IN the past to Romantic poets, Dutch painters and noted philosophers, Hampstead is now a hub of cultural venues, artisan bakeries and up-market eating places. It was the natural choice for PegasusLife’s development, Hampstead Green Place, which is now on sale.

“Wellness, comfort and elegance are its heart,” says the developer. Homeowners at Hampstead Green Place will enjoy use of a luxury spa, including a lounge, gym, stretch studio and lap pool. Afternoons can be spent relaxing in the sauna and steam room, with spa and beauty treatments. A social kitchen and grand communal lounge also allow residents to entertain, make new friendships and strengthen existing ones.

Days out in central London are easy to arrange, with both overground and underground stations nearby. Residents can take the tube to a West End show, stroll around the Heath or browse in Hampstead’s markets and boutiques. Both culture vultures and nature lovers have everything on their doorstep.

Channelling all this culture and leafiness, the development sets lively social spaces alongside peaceful natural areas. The one- and two-bedroom apartments are contemporary in design, while the rooftop also offers a “secret” garden with outdoor seating and views stretching over the city.

A neighbouring PegasusLife development, No.79 Fitzjohn’s Avenue, is also inspired by the charm and grandeur of Hampstead and will be a modern interpretation of a Victorian mansion block.

To ensure life is as carefree as possible at both properties, a concierge is on hand to deal with any queries residents may have.

“After all,” says the developer, “retirement should be as enjoyable as possible. With this in mind, PegasusLife has made sure its new way of delivering retirement property extends beyond the buildings.

“For anyone who has always lived in a freehold property, apartment living and the associated property management costs can often be an adjustment. PegasusLife service charges are calculated on a not-for-profit basis and go back into the upkeep and management of your home.”

The homes have 1,000-year leases, so owners and their families can easily sell them on.

There are no exit fees and this, along with the non-profit management cost, alleviates some of the financial burdens of retirement; a common headache when finding the perfect home.

ONE OF the many benefits of joining a community such as Sunrise is the assisted living. But there is much more to community life than assistance. Residents can try a wide variety of activities, develop their talents and skills and express their creativity.

Sunrise of Elstree also helps residents engage with the local area. The community hosts a mother and baby group twice a month, where three generations can spend quality time with each other.

As well as individual rooms, Sunrise has companion suites, a self-contained space with a private bedroom, kitchenette and bathroom, for two residents. These are great for sociable people who want to form friendships and for couples who want to combine the benefits of residential care and assisted living with a little more privacy.

Also in Hertfordshire, Sunrise of Chorleywoood is a newly-refurbished community delivering personalised nursing care, dementia care and assisted living.

Here, activities include a creative writing group, book club and quizzes.

There is a landscaped garden and terrace area and residents have personalised rooms which allow them to express their own style and interests.

On top of the assisted living services, the nursing team is on hand to support residents, as is a dedicated dementia care team, who ensure those living with dementia lead fulfilling lives.

To show people what it is like to live at a Sunrise community, both Elstree and Chorleywood are inviting anyone interested to become a Resident for a Day on Tuesday, May 15. Visitors will experience the community lifestyle, tour the facilities, take part in activities and taste the food.
