Arrest after teenagers punched in attack
AN APPEAL has been made for witnesses to an antisemitic attack in which two teenagers were “racially assaulted, verbally and physically”.
The incident took place on Sunday evening in Golders Green, North-West London. Police and volunteers from the Shomrim neighbourhood security group were called in the wake of the attack.
A spokesperson for Shomrim said the boys, described as “young teenagers”, had been punched and pushed, and were called “f***ing Jews”.
The group said its volunteers “had detained the suspect, who was subsequently arrested by the police”.
Shomrim also said “a man who witnessed the violent attack stopped his vehicle and got out to assist the victims but did not leave contact details.” They had initially urged him to get in touch, saying his evidence could be “crucial to ensure the perpetrator faces prosecution”.
The Shomrim spokesperson added: “We have a community Whatsapp service, started a couple of months ago, where we can send a message to the entire community.
“On Monday we sent out that message, and within seven minutes of sending it out, the fellow [who had stopped his car and was Jewish] called in.”
The spokesperson added: “There were lots of people there, so we have carried on with the appeal.”
Witnesses who saw the incident, at the junction of the North Circular Road, Golders Green Road and Brent Street, are asked to call Shomrim on 0300 999 1234.
