Who’s up and who’s down on rich list?

- BY JC REPORTERS

SIR PHILIP Green lost more than a quarter of his wealth in the past year, the Sunday Times’s Rich List has revealed.

The fashion tycoon’s wealth fell by 28 per cent, the newspaper said, amid concern over the future of his Arcadia retail group.

His combined fortune with his wife Christina was down to £2 billion, a fall of £787 million.

Ukrainian-born Sir Len Blavatnik, once Britain’s richest man, ranked third overall with a fortune of £15.3bn.

The Warner Music Group owner earned a knighthood for donations of more than £100m to the Tate Modern, the Victoria and Albert Museum and Oxford University.

But he slipped down the list to third place after a drop of £723m.

Other well-known Jewish figures on the list include Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich, worth £9.3bn, and commodity businessmen David and Simon Reuben — born in Mumbai and descended from an Iraqi Jewish family — who ranked fourth after their combined fortune rose eight per cent to £15.1bn. Jaime Gilinski, a Colombian banker and property developer, is the wealthiest new entry on the list.

The former chair of capital projects at Chabad House, who now lives in London, has a fortune of £3bn.

Also listed is Joshua Stevens, who was named as one of the UK’s wealthiest young entrepreneurs.

Mr Stevens is chief executive of the One Retail Group, which owns lifestyle brands operating across Britain, Europe and the US. With an estimated wealth of £30m, he was third on the young list.

He told the JC he grew up in Elstree as a member of Hendon Reform Synagogue.

“I never went into this to make large amounts of money, that’s a side effect of doing what I love,” the former Haberdashers’ Aske’s’ student said.

“I got into this because I love the business of conceptualising product ideas in my head, and actually establishing a market and seeing the positive impact it has on people. That’s the buzz that I get.

“It’s happened so quickly, and a lot of it’s happened online,” he said about the company’s growth.

“I’m very keen to expand our presence on the high street. We’ve kind of done it in reverse — a lot of companies start on the high street and grow into online. We’ve gone the other way around.”

Disgraced Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein is a prominent absentee.

He featured in 2017 with his nowestranged wife Georgina Chapman as having a wealth of £195 million, but a litany of sexual abuse allegations led to him being dismissed from his company. Joshua Stevens saw his wealth swell to around £30m
