Funding boost allows Wingate to develop

- BY JC REPORTER

FOOTBALL ARON Sharpe expressed delight after Wingate & Finchley were awarded funding for a stadium upgrade.

The club, who play in the Bostik League Premier Division, will receive a grant of £146,592 from the Premier League, through the Football Stadia Improvement Fund

(FSIF).

Wingate will use the funds to improve their existing stadium in Summers Lane, including an upgraded function room and bar, state-of-the-art changing rooms for both players and officials, and upgraded spectator toilets. Chairman Aron Sharpe said: “We are more than pleased to have received a grant. The new facility will allow us to modernise and update many facets of the stadium and its facilities. “This, along with the refurbishment of our 3G five-a-side pitches, will allow for more participation of youngsters and improve grassroots sports facilities in the area.”

Next season, the club plans to bring its youth structure in-house. Its teams will range from its semi-professional first team down to the under-seven age group, as it looks to grow links in the local area and benefit the community and local grass-roots game. Maccabi London Lions B secured the treble after registering a 4-0 triumph over Glenthorne to seal the Maccabi Masters League Division Two title. Goals from Ory Halperin (2), Gideon Barnett, and David Pollock eased the double cup winners to third their trophy of the season.
