Coombe Hill show their true colours
GOLF COOMBE Hill collected the top prize at the 22nd Ladies National Tournament at Bonnyton Golf Club, near Glasgow.
A total of 84 golfers from 12 teams in the UK and Republic of Ireland competed at the competition, held at the Eaglesham course for the first time.
The teams were greeted by bagpipes at the pre-tournament dinner in the Bonnyton clubhouse before the action commenced.
Judy Byrne Murray from Edmondstown, Dublin was the star on the opening day, winning the Singles Gross Trophy with a stunning score of 81. Byrne Murray, who has been battling cancer for the past few years, was commended by Ladies National Tournament chair Marilyn Levene “for her determination, playing amazing golf and being an inspiration to all who know her”.

Judy Byrne Murray Gross runner-up. Dyrham Park also featured strongly, lifting the Team Gross runners-up trophy, as well as the Fourball Gross runners-up and the Combined Singles and Fourball Gross. Edmondstown collected the Combined Singles and Fourball Nett, the Team Singles Nett, the Team Fourball Nett and the Team Nett Trophy. Other trophies were won by Hartsbourne, Dunham Forest, Moor Allerton and the host club, Bonnyton, won the Fourball Nett runners-up.
The teams this year were Abridge, Bonnyton, Coombe Hill, Dyrham Park, Dunham Forest, Edmondstown, Hartsbourne, Lee Park, Moor Allerton, Shirley, Combined Societies and Whitefield.
The Ladies National is staged alternately in London and the Provinces and will be held at Whitefield Golf Club in Manchester on May 16 next year.
