A fun way to fundraise for Stanmore home

- BY JC REPORTER

FATHER’S DAY was a family fun day for Jewish Care as 2,800 people attended an event which raised more than £24,000 for the charity.

The fun day, organised by the Princess Alexandra Home special events committee, featured activities including bouncy castles, tea cup rides, arts and crafts, face painting and cricket with Middlesex players.

It has traditionally been held at the Princess Alexandra premises in Stanmore. But because of a £47 million building project on the site, it was relocated to Aldenham Country Park.

Jonathan Posner, who came along with his family, said: “There were plenty of activities for all ages and the volunteers have been very helpful. It’s great to give support to such a fabulous cause.”

Noa Davis, 12, said the day had been “really fun. There’s loads to do and you never get bored.”

Jewish Care clients were also among the fun lovers. Louise Brewer, a resident at the charity’s Rubens House in Redbridge, said: “It’s been a long time since I came to anything like this and it’s been wonderful.”

Proceeds will go towards activities for Princess Alexandra residents.

The building project incorporates a new care home, assisted living studios, independent living apartments and a community centre.

To be known as Sandringham, it will be completed in 2020, although the care home will open next year. More than £40 million of the cost has already been raised.
